This baby elephant was attacked by a crocodile in South Africa. It didn’t take long once the cries from the baby elephant were heard for a whole herd of elephants to come to the rescue. The leader of the charge was probably the female matriarch of the herd.
Under the watchful eye of its family, the baby elephant had gone to the edge of an African waterhole for a drink.
Unfortunately, the leafy pond was perfect camouflage for a hungry crocodile, which clamped its teeth on to the end of its surprised victim’s trunk and began a tug-of-war.
Or, as Kipling writes in The Elephant’s Child: ‘And the Elephant’s Child spread all his little four legs and pulled, and pulled, and pulled, and his nose kept on stretching; and the Crocodile threshed his tail like an oar, and he pulled, and pulled, and pulled, and at each pull the Elephant’s Child’s nose grew longer and longer – and it hurt him…
Hearing the baby’s calls of distress, the herd of elephants immediately went to its rescue, scaring off the crocodile by trumpeting and stamping the ground. After the attack the herd stayed with the youngster.
When the baby had recovered the herd crossed the waterhole together in safety, only yards from where the crocodile had been hiding.

WHY….didn’t the photographer help the elephant? I can see elephants have much more “humanity” than the “human” photographer does. We “humans” can learn a lot by observing animals!
how the heck was the photographer supposed to help? it’s an elephant that weighs 250 pounds and an crocodile that can weigh 1600 pounds. he was supposed to open the crocodiles mouth? or jump on it? then get eaten by the crocodile that can outrun a man? or stampeded and attacked by the other elephants that weigh 11,000 pounds? no. he couldn’t do anything.

I’ll start by saying that “d.e. goodman” your comment lacks serious intelligence, even IF there was something the cameraman could do (which there isn’t ) real wildlife photographers are NOT permitted to interfere with any animals normal feeding/killing/hunting tendencies.(assuming this was a real photographer) It is the wild and the Crock has to survive as well. As much as we hate to see it. And for “Cara” ur vary right in most that u say except that baby elephant weighs a lot more than 250 and the Crock a lot less than 1600 ( i know u said “up too”) but that elephant weighs more than that crock for sure. its prob close to 800 lbs or more already and that crock, he’s probably 500 or 600 lbs. I do agree with all tho. Vary nice pictures and thank goodness the baby got away. (it seems at least)
