Friendship Of Penguin And Baby Dolphin

Published on Tuesday, November 9, 2010 by

This 10-day-old dolphin was injured by a fishing net and discovered near the Montevideo beach (Uruguay). There was no sign of the dolphin’s mother, so the mammal was lowered into a swimming pool at the NGO Rescate Fauna Marina centre. Local “resident”, the Magellan penguin, quickly became friends with a baby dolphin.

The natural survival rate for dolphins within their first year of life in the wild is 20 per cent.

The death toll of captive born dolphins is much higher. According to the US Marine Mammal Inventory Report did between 1960 and 1993 more than 50 per cent of thedolphins born in captivity within the first four months of life.
